The gRiM cOuTuRe Artist Grant

gRiM cOuTuRe, in partnership with the Art & Artists Network and the Artist Mentors Group, present The gRiM cOuTuRe Artist Grant.

The goal of this grant is to aid newer artists in establishing their place within the SL arts community.

Artists are encouraged to complete the application process which will entail a general application, submission of art work, statement of authenticity and a summary of thier artistic vision with in SL. Applications can be found at:

A grant recipient will be chosen by officers of gRiM cOuTuRe magazine, the Art & Artists Network, and Artist Mentors groups.

The recipient will then be given an option of

1) 30 days tier paid on an approved art space

or

2) Financial support, organization and promotion of an SL art event featuring their work.

Grant recipients will also receive one on one business and artistic mentoring through other SL artists involved with the program. Their artwork will also be showcased in an issue of gRiM cOuTuRe.

The following topics have come up recently, and I wanted to pinpoint a couple of things that require prior approval from a group moderator BEFORE sending in a group notice:

Q. Can I send a piece of art in a Group Notice (without an accompanying event announcement)?

Q. Can I send out a survey in a Group Notice?

A. If you want to send either of these to the group, ask a Moderator (Sasun Steinbeck or Klink Epsilon) for approval before you send it.
Failure to do so may result in a warning.

A notice to all members -- Important!

The Art & Artist Network has been around for about 2 years now, and is still going strong. The art world in Second Life has grown immensely since then, and my moderators and I have decided that the time has come to update the group FAQ and the group charter.

- We have decided to re-emphasize the focus of this group to Fine Arts. Music acts, and musical performances, however important, have plenty of groups devoted to their promotion (for example, Live Music Enthusiasts). While all musicians and their associates are welcome to stay in the Art & Artist Network, we ask that you please do NOT post Group Notices about musical events, UNLESS they are directly related to a Fine Art event.

- Members who have not logged into SL for 6 months or more will be ejected. This is nothing personal, we simply want to keep the group populated with active members. If you have been ejected for inactivity and wish to join again, simply ask one of the Moderators to re-invite you.

A couple of helpful hints about group notices

A group member IMed me earlier today and had a helpful suggestion for sending out Notices:

"I love staying up to date on openings and exhibits. I have a suggestion that may make it easier for everyone to reference notices....Can we suggest to members that they notecard their notices and paste LM in them for future viewing?"

I think it's a very wise idea, indeed. Many of our members DO send notecards with their Notices, but those who don't might want to consider the idea. You just might get more visitors to your events that way!

Speaking of Notices, did you know that you can view the past MONTH of Notices? This is especially helpful if want to read the Notice again, or if you decline the attachment by mistake.

Here's what to do:
Open the Group Information box, and click on the Notices tab. You will see a list of the past month's group notices. Since there are so many, you may want to re-arrange the list to find what you want. There are three ways to do this:

1.) Click on 'Subject' to re-arrange the list alphabetically by subject;
2.) Click on 'From' to re-arrange the list alphabetically by sender's name; or
3.) Click on 'Date' to re-arrange the list by date (keep in mind that the date list is arranged by numerical order, NOT chronologically).

When you find the notice you want, click on it. You will be able to read the contents and accept the attachment, if any.

Submissions to the Art & Artist Network Flickr group

To all group members who are also part of our Flickr group:

I just went through & removed pictures that I don't feel are relevant to the group topic. I want to reassure you that this wasn't done because the pictures were inadequate in any way, I simply want the group submissions to stick to theme as much as possible.

-- Submission guidelines --

YES: Gallery pictures; pictures of individual art works, snapshots of an artist at an event, live musical performances (excluding DJs unless it is accompanying an art event), installation pictures, gallery pictures, snapshots of artistically done builds.

NO: Glamor shots, landscape pics, random snapshots, portrait pictures (unless it is a picture of an artist in his/her gallery or event), photo manipulations of SL snapshots (unless it features art-related content).

I realize these restrictions might seem strict, but I do want this to be a specialty group for SL and not just another place to dump all SL-related snapshots. Thanks for understanding. :)

If I have removed anyone's picture in error, please let me know, and you can re-submit it. I apologize for any misunderstandings!

Art & Artist Network Group

Welcome to the Art & Artist Network.

The Art & Artist Network group was founded as a way to connect anyone interested in gallery openings, art auctions, gallery walks, emerging artists, machinima festivals, art fundraisers, artist blogs, art publications, meetings, etc., etc... This is THE group to join to stay connected for the Art World in Second Life!

To join, IM one of the moderators, Klink Epsilon or Sasun Steinbeck, for admission to the group. (Nebulosus Severine is not currently an active member.)

Group Rules

1.) This is a Notice-Only group. GROUP IMs ARE DISABLED. If you need to make an announcement, send a Group Notice.

2.) Group Notices MUST be Fine Arts-related in some way. This isn't a group for announcing your yard sale. I have a zero-tolerance policy for off-topic notices. If you are unsure if your announcement is appropriate, use some common sense and IM any of the Moderators to ask.
* Music events are considered to be off-topic unless they are directly related to a Fine Arts event. (Please see this post for further details.)
* Before sending art pieces or surveys, you MUST obtain Moderator approval. (Please see this post for further details.)

3.) No more than 2 group notices are allowed per event/exhibition. Plan your notice-sending accordingly.

4.) Members who have not logged into SL for 6 months or more will be removed from the group. This is nothing personal, we simply want to keep the group populated with active members. If you have been ejected for inactivity and wish to join again, simply ask one of the Moderators to re-invite you.

Group Notices

All members of the Art & Artist Network group have the ability to send group notices.

Please be respectful and send NO MORE THAN 2 NOTICES PER INDIVIDUAL EVENT/SUBJECT.

To create a group notice:
1.) Open the Group Info box (an easy way of doing this is to double-click the Art & Artist Network group name in your profile).
2.) Select the 'Notices' tab, which is on top.
3.) Select 'Create New Notice.'
4.) Fill out the box however you want it to read. You can also attach 1 item to the message (a notecard, landmark, snapshot, object, etc.) by dragging it from your inventory to the small grey box below the main message box.
5.) When you're finished, hit 'Send Notice.' Within a few moments, you'll know it went through if the Group Notice dialogue box pops up.
**Note: SL's group notice system seems to be a bit faulty at times, which means that not all messages may go out on the first attempt. Please wait at least an hour before attempting to send the notice again.

Did you know?

-- You can opt-out of receiving Group Notices if you don't want to receive them. Open the Group Info box and look in the lower-right corner. You will see a check box that says "Receive Group Notices." Just uncheck the box. Some notices may slip through (I'm not sure if this is an SL bug), but you will no longer receive most notices.

[Note: If you have an email auto-response when you're not logged in, PLEASE disable the Group Notice. Group notices trigger your auto-response to IM the sender, which is rather annoying.]

-- You can view past Notices? This is especially helpful if want to read the Notice again, or if you decline the attachment by mistake. Every group is now limited to 200 stored notices which expire 14 days after creation. Messages over 200, or older than 14 days, will be regularly deleted.
